Advising

Guided by Meaningful Mentorship
One of the most valued aspects of a student’s experience at St. Sebastian’s is the quality of the relationships he forms with classmates and faculty. Often, the faculty member with whom a student connects most deeply is his advisor.
Anchors for Students and Families
Faculty advisors play an instrumental role in helping each student to navigate all aspects of his St. Sebastian’s journey. Advisors also form a sacred partnership with students’ parents, serving as a trusted resource for questions, check-ins, and guidance.
The advisor is normally one of a student’s first-year classroom teachers, so the advisor and advisee get to know each other well from the start. Boys are also welcome to select their own faculty advisor or to change advisors as they forge relationships with other teachers and coaches—though most boys have their original advisor through graduation and beyond.
St. Sebastian's is a special place. Relationships are so important here, whether with other students, my teachers and coaches or my advisor. Teddy F.

Individualized Support
Advisors provide the academic support and social-emotional encouragement that boys need to do their best in their classes, to connect happily with peers, and take healthy risks in trying something new. The advisor helps the advisee to prioritize and balance academic responsibilities and extracurricular activities.

Regular Connection
Advisor-advisee meeting times are built into the school schedule, though students meet with their advisors whenever the need arises. Each week begins with advisees sitting with their advisors in All School Corporate Chapel, so there is plenty of opportunity to connect.
