Prayer & Sacramental Life

At St. Sebastian’s, students are invited to develop their faith in God.
In addition to religious instruction in the classroom, boys are offered meaningful opportunities to actively live out their faith—intentionally and authentically—every day. Central to this are prayer and the sacraments.

Prayer
Prayer begins and ends much of what we do at St. Sebastian’s.
It starts at Corporate Chapel Monday morning when the Chaplain inaugurates the week by offering praise and thanksgiving to God. It continues throughout the day, with prayers said before many classes and personal petitions expressed in class chapels. Even in the afternoon, prayer plays a role as athletes direct their voices to God, praying for brave and honorable competition and the safety of themselves and their opponents. All-school assemblies begin and end with a prayer, usually offered by our Chaplain or Head of School.
A number of groups have formed for the express purpose of praying together throughout the year.
- Arrows Together, our student prayer group which meets during Advent and Lent
- A student-led bible study group
- A group devoted to saying the Divine Mercy Chaplet
- Groups dedicated to saying the Rosary on Thursdays in the months of October and May in the Peace Garden of St. Bartholomew Church
- A group of mothers who meet the first Monday of every month to say the Rosary in the Chapel of St. Sebastian
- Also distinctive of the school is the blessing of teams by the School Chaplain at the outset of each athletic season

The Sacraments
Unique for any school, St. Sebastian's has a full-time chaplain whose constant presence on campus makes possible the frequent reception of the sacraments for all who want to receive them—especially the Holy Eucharist, “the source and summit of the Christian life.”
