Chapel

Chapel is at the heart of our community and prayer life at St. Sebastian's.

Each week students gather in all-school Corporate Chapel and in grade-level Class Chapel to share, reflect, commune, and rejoice, and deepen their faith together.

All-School Corporate Chapel:

Gathering as One

Every Monday morning, the entire study body (or “corpus”) and faculty gather in the Church for Corporate Chapel.

Here, we come together to pray, sing, reflect on Scripture readings, hear Senior Chapel Speeches, and receive from the Head of School words of encouragement and inspiration.  Students sit with their faculty advisors and fellow advisees, making Chapel not only a spiritual gathering but also a moment of connection with mentors and friends as the week begins.

Chapel ends with announcements from peer leaders, student council members, and faculty who celebrate the previous week’s highlights and invite the community to take part in upcoming events.

Class Chapel:

Reflecting Together, Growing Together

During the other days of the week, each grade level gathers in the St. Sebastian’s Chapel for its own Class Chapel.

Students read from the Scriptures and pray in both word and song. Students are also invited to offer petitions for loved ones, friends, and neighbors around the world, which unites the class in prayer, reflection, and intention.

Class Chapel also provides a meaningful opportunity for each student in Grades 7-11 to deliver a Chapel Speech to their classmates, faculty mentors, advisors, and parents and family in attendance. Guided by a faculty moderator, each speech centers on a topic about which the student feels passionate, allowing him to share his story, values and voice in a supportive and reverent setting.

A Community-Affirming Experience

Seniors go deep with their speeches, serving as role models for younger students, perpetuating the strength of our community, celebrating the School's mission, and thanking their mentors and family for the support they receive along the way.
