Senior Service Concludes with a Successful Food Drive

Members of the Class of 2020 conclude their Senior Service this week. Their efforts these past five weeks have been focused on serving those in need during the COVID-19 pandemic. For their final service project, the seniors organized a food drive to benefit Catholic Charities of Boston.  Each week, Catholic Charities of Boston has been distributing 25,000 lbs. of food to those individuals and families most in need.

Seniors secured food donations from over 90 families with students in grades 7-11, senior families and faculty members. On May 21, the seniors, wearing gloves and face masks, drove to each home gathering food donations in over 28 towns as far north as Winchester and as far south as Norwell, and delivered them to St. Sebastian’s. Thanks to the generosity of our St. Sebastian’s community, two buses filled with food were delivered to Catholic Charities and distributed to those families who need it most during this devastating time.

A special thanks to the faculty who helped to load the truck and Nancy Sanderson and Julie Yandow for creating the routes for the seniors’ food pickup. We live the order of the day to “love God, work hard, and take good care of one another,” which we’ve seen so vividly through the seniors’ actions and compassion this spring.
