Varsity Tennis
OVERVIEW
Tennis is one of the most competitive sports in the Independent School League, with many teams fielding USTA and UTR ranked players. The ISL frequently sends multiple teams to the New England championship tournament sponsored by the New England Prep School Athletic Council (NEPSAC). In 2007, ISL schools captured championship titles in all three divisions—Class A, Class B, and Class C.
St. Sebastian’s is proud to be part of such a robust tradition and has had its share of success. Twice, the Arrows were semi-finalists in the NEPSAC Class B championships—in 2012 and 2016. And many St. Sebastian’s graduates have gone on to play at the collegiate level, competing at such schools as Boston College, Harvard, Middlebury, the University of Massachusetts, Holy Cross, and Connecticut College.
In the fall of 2001 St. Sebastian’s completed construction of arguably one of the top outdoor tennis facilities in the ISL. Five courts sit parallel to the Charles River overlooked by a sixth, the ‘championship court’ dedicated to the memory of former player and team captain Kevin Ghelli '91. The courts were most recently resurfaced in the summer of 2019.
