The varsity basketball team opened the season with two big wins in the Zero Gravity Prep Classic at the Dana Barros Center.  In the first contest, the Arrows took down Tabor Academy 84-68 and followed it up by defeating perennial power Northfield Mount Hermon 93-78.  AJ Dybantsa '26 was named the tournament's Most Outstanding Player.  The Arrows improved to 4-0 last week with a 73-64 road victory at St. George's and a 63-53 defeat of Wilbraham Monson at the Scholar Roundball Classic.  St. Sebastians will co-host the Class A Winter Classic this coming weekend and will face three Class A opponents in Taft (Thur 7:45 pm), Brunswick (Fri 4:15 pm), and Choate (Sat 12:15 pm).

HOCKEY

On Wednesday Seb's Varsity Hockey took on Portsmouth Abbey at Lane Arena.  Matt Cataldo and Isaac Mitchell each had a hat trick while Aidan Connors notched two assists en route to a 6-1 victory.  This past Saturday, Phillips Exeter visited Seb's for their annual contest.  Teddy Mutryn scored twice, including a short-handed goal, while Matt Cataldo scored, and Casey Mutryn notched his first ever varsity goal.  Pelle Russo made 31 saves for his second shutout of the season.  The next game is at Brooks on Wednesday and the beginning of the Mutch Cup Tournament is at Seb's against Albany Academy on Friday at 2 pm.

SQUASH

The Squash Team is off to a great start this season (3-0). We began by hosting Brookline’s varsity team. The Arrows won 5-2. Despite the fact that we won by a relatively wide margin, each individual game was very close with Arrows working hard for every point. On Saturday, 12/10, the team traveled up the Phillips Andover’s courts to play Nobles and Phillips Andover. The Arrows earned two more victories, 5-2 against Nobles and 6-1 against Phillips.

WRESTLING

On December 3rd, the wrestling team started the season off very strong with dominant wins over BB&N and St. Paul’s. This is the first time the team has ever bested St. Paul’s and they controlled the match the whole way. We saw impressive performances by Eddie Zhang, who technically fell his opponent in the 2nd period, winning 16-1. Dom Funke didn’t let his opponent breathe with a swift first-period pin, and Landon Bailey bumped up to the heavyweight to wrestle a giant who proved to be no match for him as Landon forced a come-from-behind pin in the first period.

The following Wednesday, the arrows traveled to Milton Academy to wrestle Lawrence, Thayer, and Milton. Seb's rolled through each team and won by a combined score of 183-39, proving that the Arrows wrestling team is not a team to overlook. These matches saw the return of senior, Quincy Pickett, as he dug deep to win with a last-second takedown. Dylan Lipof has also made an impact on the Seb’s wrestling team with big pins coming against Milton and a come-from-behind pin against Lawrence.

On Friday night, Seb’s hosted Roxbury Latin and Middlesex, two strong teams in the ISL. As of late, RL has been consistently top 3 in the league and has historically been ISL champions for multiple years. The arrows fell for the first time 44-33 against RL. Strong performances from Luis Sosa Espinal and Cam Steele kept the arrows alive however, the team came up just short of upsetting them. However, the arrows took care of business and beat Middlesex 73-6.

Seb’s wrestling now sits at 6-1 with Tabor visiting on Wednesday 12/14, and then the arrows will travel to Tabor on Saturday to compete in the Battle of the bay, wrestling tournament.

SKIING

The Ski Team has been practicing for it’s upcoming 2022-2023 season. Dryland workouts will continue through Christmas Break, as the team is eager to hit the slopes come January. Teddy Gleba and Patrick Sliz are Co-Captains for Seb's.
