Latin Club Attends Classics Day at Holy Cross

Latin Club Attends Classics Day at Holy Cross
Members of the Latin Club attended Classics Day at Holy Cross on Thursday, April 12. St. Sebastian's Latin students had a very successful day as they earned four awards—1st Place Art Contest, 1st Place Lower Division Certamen, 2nd Place Upper Division Certamen, and 2nd Place Manuscripts Challenge. Students participating in the Art Contest and Manuscript Challenge logged many hours of preparation before the day even began. The Manuscript Challenge team examined a manuscript of Vergil's first Eclogue—submitting a nine page entry which offered a transcription of the text, a translation of the poem, and observations regarding the decoration and condition of the pages. Read their entry here. The ceramic art entries from Stephen Jessup and Nolan McGovern portray two different stories about the descent into the underworld. McGovern sculpted Cerberus, the three headed dog pushing Hercules into the fire of hell. Jessup made a wheel thrown vase depicting the story of Charon and the golden bough.

Congratulations to all our winners!
