This one-week workshop will focus on the important skills of Public Speaking and Debating. Students will learn how to craft speeches in different genres, such as Persuasive Speaking and Impromptu Speaking. They will then learn the art of Debating in different styles, e.g., Parliamentary Extemporaneous Debating as well as Prepared Cross-Examination Debating. The workshop will be primarily interactive and provide students with many opportunities to engage in real debates to hone their skills and test them in actual debate settings. The varied types of speaking and debating will be the same as the Public Speaking Events and Debate Tournaments sponsored throughout the school year by the Debating Association of New England Independent Schools.
