Maxwell Surprenant '22 Wins Five Scholastic Art and Writing Awards

Freshman Maxwell Surprenant won five awards in journalism in the 2018-2019 Scholastic Art and Writing Awards, including a Gold Key for "On Set with Anderson Cooper." He won two Silver Keys for "Turning Pages with Sonia Sotomayor" and "The Art of Political Cartooning" (Matt Wuerker) and two Honorable Mentions for "The Red Bandanna" (Tom Rinaldi) and "Marathon Meb" (Meb Keflezighi). Founded in 1923 by Maurice R. Robinson, the Scholastic Art & Writing Awards recognizes students in grades 7-12 for their artistic achievements in 29 different categories of art and writing. Maxwell's work will be recognized at the Regional Awards, held at Tufts University on March 16, and his Gold and Silver pieces will advance to the National competition.
