Two roads diverged in a sunny classroom on Tuesday, January 11, for five Arrows. Alessandro Barbiellini '21, Tommy McCarthy '20, Patrick McDonald '20, Anthony Perez '19 and Cole Tremblay '19 took the one less traveled by, and that has made all the difference. They were selected to advance to the Finals of this year's Poetry Out Loud competition.
Poetry Out Loud encourages students to learn about great poetry through memorization and recitation. This program helps students master public speaking skills, build self-confidence, and learn about literary history and contemporary life. Poetry Out Loud has grown to reach more than 3 million students and 50,000 teachers from 10,000 schools in every state, Washington, DC, the US Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico.
The students delivered their prepared poems to a crowd of their peers along with a panel of faculty judges comprised of Mr. Calabro, Ms. O'Luanaigh, Mr. Moore, and Mr. Sanderson '12. The Finals will be held on Thursday, February 7, to determine the St. Sebastian's representative at the state competition.
