St. Sebastian's Homecoming 2021

St. Sebastian's Homecoming 2021

Alumni, students, parents and faculty gathered this past weekend, Friday, October 15, and Saturday, October 16, with great enthusiasm to celebrate St. Sebastian's Homecoming and to cheer on the varsity football, soccer, and cross country teams after last year's homecoming weekend event was cancelled due to the pandemic.

The weekend began with the junior varsity and varsity cross country team hosting Buckingham, Browne & Nichols at The Rashi School in Needham. The squad was supported by a number of St. Sebastian's students who cheered on their fellow Arrows with great vigor. Sam Hinman '23 came in first, setting a course record of 17:51 (Patrick McDonald '20 had the previous record of 18:01). Jack Connors '24 came in a very close second, also breaking the course record, with a time of 17:52. Hans Vigener '22 placed third with a personal record time of 18:29. Will Hansen '23 (19:57) and Brian Luppy '22 (20:19) were fourth and fifth. Both the varsity and junior varsity teams won their races against BB&N. Varsity won 21-36; JV won 24-31.

The following morning, members of the school community filled the sidelines to watch St. Sebastian's host the Lawrence Academy football team. Before kickoff, the Arrowheads sang the National Anthem and recently retired, long-time St. Sebastian's employee, Jack Doherty, tossed the coin at center field. Though the Arrows played hard, they took a 42-27 loss. Meanwhile, the St. Sebastian's varsity soccer team competed against Belmont Hill and took a 3-1 victory. This was the first time in 5 years that the Arrows' varsity soccer team defeated Belmont Hill on the Homecoming game (the last being in 2016). Will Adams ’22 netted the first goal, with a second by Aidan Noonan ’22, and Brendan Schmidt ’24 scored the final goal to solidify the victory.

Congratulations to all of our athletes and thank you to everyone who came out to support St. Sebastian's!
