Seven Seniors Recognized as National Scholars

Headmaster Bill Burke and Assistant Headmaster Michael Nerbonne announced that six St. Sebastian's students have been recognized by the 2022 National Merit Scholarship Program. The Commended Students are Thomas C. Cronin '22, John T. Flynn '22, Cooper B. McCann '22, William M. McInerney '22, Maxwell C. Surprenant '22 and Kevin S. Wakakuwa '22.

Students named as Commended Students are recognized for their exceptional academic promise, placing among the top 3% of more than 1.5 million students who entered the 2022 competition by taking the 2020 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT) last fall.

One member of the senior class, Charles S. DeMatteo '22, has been named a Semifinalist in the National Merit Competition and will go on to compete as a Finalist. His performance places him in the top 1% of those who tested nationally.

Charlie also received an Award for Excellence in Academic Achievement from the National Hispanic Recognition Program.

To all the recognized seniors, congratulations on your tremendous academic achievement!
