As part of our ongoing commitment to the teaching of writing, we are proud to announce the St. Sebastian’s Visiting Writer Series. Each semester we will welcome a writer to share his or her work, speak to students about the craft of writing and visit English and Writing classes.
On Friday, December 1, St. Sebastian's welcomed poet Charles Coe. Mr. Coe gave a brief talk to all students in Grades 10, 11, and 12 before visiting classes and speaking with smaller groups of students during the school day.
Mr. Coe’s poetry and prose has appeared in numerous journals and magazines, and his poems have been set to music by composers Julia Carey, Beth Denisch and Robert Moran. His first poetry collection is Picnic on the Moon (Leapfrog Press). Charles also writes feature articles, book reviews, and interviews for publications such as Harvard Magazine, Northeastern University Law Review and the Boston Phoenix. In addition to his work as a writer, he has an extensive background as a jazz vocalist and has performed and recorded with numerous musicians throughout New England.
