Founder's Day Assembly 2022

At this morning’s Founder’s Day Assembly, St. Sebastian’s welcomed back Steve Mullin ’84, P’23 to address the student body. Steve was introduced by his son, Trevor, a member of the Class of 2023. Mr. Mullin brought the students back to the time when St. Sebastian’s occupied Nonantum Hill in Newton and reminded them that you must understand your history and where you come from to know where you are going. During Christmas break of his junior year the School moved to its current location in Needham. Mr. Mullin emphasized the grit and determination of his classmates from that time. Despite the challenges of the limited facilities in Newton, one academic building and one field, St. Sebastian’s was built on a culture that Mr. Mullin likened to a “Band of Brothers.” This gritty band of St. Sebastian’s brothers were always there for each other, on the field, in the classroom, and in their personal lives. Mr. Mullin encouraged today’s Arrows to value their time here and work on developing friendships which will stand the test of time. From his early days in Newton to his senior year in Needham, the foundation of grit, faith and friendship was firmly established in the St. Sebastian’s culture – seemingly a precursor to “Love God, work hard, take good care of one another.”
