On April 29, 2021, the Engineering Club hosted its third meeting of the 2020-2021 academic year. Guest speaker, Joyce Wong, a professor of Biomedical Engineering, Materials Science & Engineering at Boston University, and the President-Elect at the American Institute for Medical and Biological Engineering (AIMBE), addressed the club via zoom. Dr. Wong introduced students to her work as a Biomedical Engineer and gave them various examples of projects she is working on. The elastic vascular patch, for example, offers people a safer way to treat tears in the heart because its flexibility and biomaterial makeup allow it to grow in unison with the heart. Also at the center of her presentation, Dr. Wong stressed how her experiences traveling allowed her to expand her point of view and ultimately led to her profession. She showed students the importance of travel and learning in different places and from different people. Overall, Dr. Wong gave students a great introduction into the field of Biomedical and Materials Engineering and showed how her rich perspective, shaped by her many travels, helped fuel her passion and success in Biomedical Engineering.
