On Monday, May 11, the Guild of St. Irene hosted a Zoom call with featured speaker, Dr. Edward Ryan P’23, Director of Global Infectious Diseases at Massachusetts General Hospital. Over 140 St. Sebastian’s community members participated in this informative talk.
Dr. Ryan gave an intimate account of his experience on the frontline, where he and his team are fighting every day to keep their patients alive and helping them to recover. He spoke about who in the general population is getting sick, who is being hospitalized, and the tests and treatments being used and developed to help stop the spread of the virus. Dr. Ryan then walked participants through the most current COVID-19 data provided by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts and reviewed and helped decipher the various predictive models being used by medical professionals.
While we are not out of the woods yet, there is hope, and Dr. Ryan noted that there is one redeeming feature of a pandemic, that “we are all in this together.” We are so grateful to Dr. Ryan for taking the time out of his day to speak with the St. Sebastian’s community.
