Celebrating Academic & Athletic Achievements

Celebrating Academic & Athletic Achievements

During an assembly on Monday, December 14, St. Sebastian’s recognized its students for recent academic and athletic achievements.

Assistant Headmaster Mike Nerbonne handed out Honor Roll certificates to seniors gathered in the wrestling room. (Certificates for students in other grades will be sent home). In addition, Mr. Nerbonne announced that another two students have been inducted into the Sr. Evelyn C. Barrett, O.P. Chapter of the National Honor Society. The School's newest members are Joseph Harney ’21 and Derek O’Donnell ‘21. The National Honor Society aims to create an enthusiasm for scholarship, stimulate a desire to render service, promote leadership, and develop character. Students with a minimum 85 percent grade average, who complete an essay application and have the support of their teachers and adviser, are eligible to apply for this honor.

Athletic Director David Hinman then shared remarks, thanking our coaches and athletes for their perseverance and commitment to their teams. “Despite all the changes we were forced to make this fall, our coaches remained fully committed to doing whatever was needed to make sure we had a season,” shared Hinman. Addressing our athletes, he noted, “You played with passion, you never stopped working, and you represented our school with the class that embodies St. Sebastian’s… I could not be prouder of our great community’s commitment to make the most of the fall season.”

This sentiment was repeated by the Head Coaches of the three varsity teams as they recapped the challenging fall season, praising their players and team leaders for demonstrating dedication and positivity amidst the restrictions imposed due to the pandemic. Coach Woody Redpath took the podium to share soccer highlights, followed by Joe Cressotti for cross country and Dan Burke for football. The coaches also announced letter winners, special award winners, and captains elect for the fall of 2021.
