For over eighteen years, St. Sebastian's has enjoyed a wonderful and rewarding partnership with the San Miguel School in Providence, Rhode Island. San Miguel is a Lasallian middle school for boys whose mission is to "break the cycle of poverty through education."
This summer, the classes of 2025, 2027 and 2028 and their parents purchased school supplies and backpacks for the San Miguel students. Under the generous and inspired leadership of Mrs. Marie Carroll P'25, '28, '30, Mrs. Katy Wallace P'25, Declan Carroll '25 and William Wallace '25, our students and parents donated 64 backpacks filled with a variety of essential school supplies, such as binders, notebooks, folders, paper, pens, markers, glue and more. All of these items, including the backpacks, were donated by St. Sebastian's families to ease the financial hardship faced by our brothers at San Miguel School.
On Thursday, September 5, 2024, Marie, Katy, Mrs. Noel Stavaridis P'24, '25, '27, Cormac Anderson '27, Decker Bannish '28, Nate Bloomenthal '28, Connor Carroll '28, Demetri Catrickes '27, Charlie Daley '28, Greg Derenzo '27, Connor Fleming '27, Victor Layevsky '28, Declan Schwarz '27, Jack Stavaridis '27, and Assistant Head of School Michael Nerbonne traveled to San Miguel to deliver the backpacks. Because of the overwhelming generosity of so many of our students and parents, we also made an additional donation from funds raised for the San Miguel Annual Fund which supports San Miguel students and families. In addition to meeting the needs of the San Miguel boys, this Project expands the hearts and minds of our St. Sebastian's students as they strive to love God, work hard, and take good care of one another. A very special word of thanks to Mrs. Marie Carroll and Mrs. Katy Wallace for their most generous, ongoing, and exemplary leadership of this very meaningful project.
