Thespis Festus Showcases Latin Excellence

Thespis Festus Showcases Latin Excellence

St. Sebastian’s held its second annual Thespis Festus on Tuesday, May 20. The Thespis Festus is a Latin declamation contest conceived of and implemented by Liam Cunjak ’25. Both Liam and Anthony Marcucci ’27 were this year’s student organizers. Mr. David Cornish, Mr. Josef Cressotti, and Mr. John Ryan IV ’15 served as judges.

Thirteen students volunteered to memorize and perform Latin passages from history, mythology, and the regular canon of authors, such Cicero and Vergil. Yet, students also recited De Sancto Sebastiano from Jacobus Voranus’ Legenda Aurea, Pliny’s famous ghost story, and a Latin version of Abraham Lincoln’s Gettysburg Address.

Congratulations to our three winners:

Anthony Marcucci ’27, Upper Division
Rohit Dabas ’27, Intermediate Division
Luke Burch ’29, Lower Division
