Arrows Donate Backpacks and School Supplies to San Miguel School

For nearly fifteen years, St. Sebastian's has enjoyed a wonderful and rewarding partnership with the San Miguel School of Providence, Rhode Island. San Miguel School is a Lasallian middle school for boys whose mission is to "break the cycle of poverty through education."

This summer, the classes of 2023 and 2024 and their parents purchased school supplies and backpacks for the San Miguel students. Under the generous and inspired leadership of Mrs. Jennifer Walsh P'22, '24, our students and parents donated 64 backpacks filled with a variety of essential school supplies, such as binders, notebooks, folders, paper, pens, markers, glue and more.

In addition to all of the usual back to school items, this year's donation also included water bottles, hand sanitizer and neck gaiters. All of these items, including the backpacks, were donated by St. Sebastian's families to ease the financial hardship faced by our brothers at San Miguel.

On Monday, August 31, 2020, Jennifer, Cotter '22, and Cormac '24 Walsh traveled to San Miguel with Mr. Nerbonne to deliver the backpacks. Because of the overwhelming generosity of so many of our students and parents, we also made a donation of over $1400 for the San Miguel Compassionate Care Fund which supports San Miguel students and families. In addition to meeting the needs of the San Miguel boys, this Project expands the hearts and minds of our St. Sebastian's students as they strive to love God, work hard and take good care of one another. A very special word of thanks to Mrs. Jennifer Walsh for her exemplary leadership of this important project in a challenging year.
