On Wednesday, January 22, both the Arrows basketball and wrestling teams faced and took victories over perennial ISL powerhouse Brooks School.
The St. Sebastian's basketball team earned an 84-71 victory against Brooks School at the West Campus Center. The victory ended a 95-game ISL winning streak for the visiting Bishops that dates back to 2014. The Arrows raced out to an early double-digit lead and never looked back en route to the great team victory. Trevor Mullin '23 led all Arrows scorers with 23 points and Lyndel Erold' 21 contributed 21 points and 9 rebounds, Trace Gotham '20 tallied 16 points on 7-9 shooting, and Ben Kaczmarek '21 hit 7-8 free throws down the stretch to also finish in double figures.
The Arrows wrestling team took a 43-18 win over Brooks. So far this season, the Arrows have achieved a 9-1 record. Since The wrestling program's inception twelve years ago, the Arrows have never defeated Brooks. The match began with St. Sebastian's winning by forfeit at the 126lb weight class with Ben Frisoli '22, putting the Arrows up 6-0. Brooks stormed back with 3 pins to build a strong lead of 18-6. However, that was the last bout that Brooks would win. With an impressive second period pin by Timmy Malloy '20, the Arrows got back on track and soon regained the lead with two forfeit victories by Nick Vallace '21 and Quinn Feeney '20. Captain Scott Behman '21 had revenge against a very strong opponent that he had lost to last year. Behman dominated the match 17 – 4 and earned 4 team points. Landon Bailey '23 put the victory out of reach for Brooks with an impressive pin within one minute of the match beginning. The final match of the day was the cherry on top, as Seamus McDonough '24 took on a ranked wrestler in New England. The match went back and forth and ended with Seamus earning two near-fall points to win his match 11-9.
