Alumni Association Welcomes Class of 2023 at Annual Breakfast

The Class of 2023 gathered on the Class of 2007 Terrace at the Griffith Headmaster’s House on Wednesday, May 31, to celebrate the annual Alumni-Senior Breakfast. The soon-to-be graduates were joined by members of the Board of Trustees and Alumni Board, and as well as alumni fathers. This year’s breakfast served as another reminder of the family that is St. Sebastian’s. The Class of 2023 legacies include eight alumni fathers and five alumni grandfathers, most certainly a highpoint in St. Sebastian’s history: Chris Baynes ’89, father of Alex; Will Burke ’95, father of Liam; Casey Condron ’94, father of Chris; Mark Daly ’92, father of Jack; Brian Devlin ’81, father of Thomas; Steve Grande ’84, father of Brian; John McAuliffe ’78, father of Tommy; and Stephen Mullin ‘84, father of Trevor. Grandfathers include Jack Boyle ’48, grandfather of Jack Boyle; Dan Daly ’61, grandfather of Jack Daly; Joe Ferrone ’54, grandfather of Alex Baynes and Trevor Mullin; Andy McAuliffe ’48, grandfather of Tommy McAuliffe; and David Barlow ’60, grandfather of Harrison Nash.

Board of Trustees President, Jim Elcock ’77, P'08 addressed the class and encouraged them to take part in and enjoy the traditions that define the St. Sebastian’s experience going forward and to hold close the relationships they have made here. Mr. Elcock also presented each of the graduates with a book, The Immortal Irishman, a biography of Thomas Francis Meagher. In addition to telling the story of one man’s incredible life, it is also one of Headmaster Burke’s favorite books.  Mr. Elcock encouraged the Class of 2023 to read the book and circle back to Mr. Burke to discuss it in the future. Alumni Board President, Peter Galligan ’74 stressed the importance of relationships made at St. Sebastian’s including friends, faculty and staff. He also recognized their 2023 Class Agents: Jack Daly, Ben Garrity, Peter Hunt, and Tommy McAuliffe. The Class Agents are charged with keeping the class close to each other and close to St. Sebastian’s.

Headmaster Burke encouraged the seniors to focus on the three S’s…Slow down and take it all in, Savor the final days together, and Say the things that need to be said to your classmates and teachers who made your time at St. Sebastian’s what it was. Congratulations to the Class of 2023 as you embark on an exciting final week at your School!
