8th Grade Field Trip to the Museum of Fine Arts

8th Grade Field Trip to the Museum of Fine Arts

On Thursday, April 24, the 8th grade traveled to the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston. Students had a timely visit and are now among the last of patrons to see the recently rescinded collection of ancient art from the Western African Kingdom of Benin (present-day Nigeria). Earlier this week, in an unprecedented move for a United States arts institution, the MFA announced that its dedicated Benin Bronze gallery will close on April 28th. Students were able to discuss art acquisition and current institutional practices for repatriation through programs such as the MFA's colonial-era provenance. Chaperones were also able to spotlight the permanent collection portraits of Massachusetts American Revolution era figures, tying in this week's 250th anniversary of the local battles that formed our nation. Thank you to our chaperones and the school for supporting this enlightening trip!
