2022 St. Sebastian's Reunion Weekend

2022 St. Sebastian's Reunion Weekend

Over 200 alumni, their spouses, faculty, and friends attended Reunion 2022 this past weekend.  On Friday, May 20, the Class of 1972 celebrated their 50th Reunion together with their spouses in Ward Hall.  Led by the Reunion Committee of Joe Boschetto, Kevin Driscoll, Dave Frawley, Brendan O’Connell, Mike Owens, Jeff Quinn, Mark Sullivan, and Michael Viano, 25 members of the Class of 1972 took a trip down memory lane with a beautiful dinner prepared by Chef Mike Fuller and his staff and enjoyed a video of photos capturing their days on Nonantum Hill.

The Classes of 1948 through 1972 began the Saturday festivities at the Golden Arrow Luncheon hosted by Headmaster Burke on the Class of 2007 Terrace at the Griffith Headmaster’s House.  Mr. Burke recognized the “giants whose shoulders we stand on” at this event held annually in honor of all alumni who have reached their 50th Reunion and beyond.  Golden Arrow lapel pins were distributed to the gathered alumni.  We were honored to host one of our longest tenured alumni, Jack Boyle ’48 GP’23, celebrating his 74th Reunion!

Beginning a new tradition, Fred Corcoran ’62 was honored as the first recipient of the “Order of the Day Award,” given to a member of the Golden Arrow Society who has exhibited a lifetime of dedication to the service of his fellow man.  His selfless commitment to others is the fulfillment of the St. Sebastian’s Order of the Day, “Love God.  Work hard.  Take good care of one another.”  Mr. Corcoran was instrumental in founding Golf For All, an organization dedicated to transforming the lives of all people with disabilities or who are experiencing hardships by providing free accessibility to the game of golf.  They provide and host free clinics throughout New England six months each year.

Five members of the Class of 2022 addressed the alumni at the event, sharing their experiences at St. Sebastian’s as well as their plans for the future.  Matt Choi, Nicholas Grover, Cooper McCann, Max Surprenant, and Paul White spent time with our alumni, highlighting the timeless Brotherhood that prevails at St. Sebastian’s.

Reunion events continued at the Cocktail Reception and Clambake on Saturday night. Before dinner, alumni, friends, and family gathered in the Class of 2017 Courtyard for a reception and class photos. The attendees enjoyed catching up over a dinner of clam chowder, lobster and steak tips in the West Campus Center's wrestling room. The program included remarks from Headmaster Burke welcoming alumni back to campus and a video presentation featuring photos from the Reunion classes.

Mr. Burke recognized the outstanding efforts of the Class of 1992 who, in honor of their 30th Reunion, made extraordinary commitments to both the Alumni Fund and the Endowment, with the establishment of the Class of 1992 Fund.  Over 70% of the class have made gifts and pledges totaling $195,000 in support of financial aid for today’s Arrows!  The Class of 1992 Reunion Gift and participation rate led all reunion classes from any generation!

Showing their true Arrows spirit, the following alumni were recognized for the extra effort to get back to campus from across the USA and the world! Mike Atwood ’97 – California, Chip Burke ’72 – Pennsylvania, Jackson McKeigue ’17 – Washington DC, Mike DeCenzo ’62 – Florida, Mark Sullivan ’72 – Florida, Anthony D'Amato ’12 – Florida, Bryan Doe ’17 – Florida, Patrick Reed ’17 – Georgia, Bryan O'Donnell ‘17 – Illinois, Ryan Martin ’17 – Pennsylvania, Ted Cronin ’72 – Virginia, Brian Compagnone ’92 – Virginia, Alex Zafonte ’17 – Sweden.

In a testament to the family atmosphere that exists at St. Sebastian’s, the following grandfather, fathers, sons, and brothers were all together in the same 2’s & 7’s Reunion cycle: Jack Doherty ’62, Tim Doherty ’87 and Jack Doherty ’17; David Frawley ’72 and Jim Frawley ’82; Charlie Tangerini ’62 and Emilio Tangerini ’07; Paul Viano ’62, Michael Viano ’72 and James Viano ’02.

It was great to see so many alumni back on campus.  To all 3’s & 8’s, make your plans for next year’s Reunion on May 19-20, 2023!  Once in.  Never Out.  Arrows forever!
