Homecoming 2022

Homecoming 2022

Alumni, students, parents and faculty gathered on Friday, October 7, and Saturday, October 8, with great enthusiasm to celebrate St. Sebastian's Homecoming and to cheer on the varsity football, soccer, and cross country teams.

The weekend began with the junior varsity and varsity cross country team's annual Homecoming Meet at The Rashi School in Needham. The squad was supported by a number of St. Sebastian's students who cheered on their fellow Arrows with great vigor. The Arrows beat Rivers 24-31, and Milton 24-32, but lost to RL 33-24, going 2-1 overall. Junior captain Jack Connors came in first for St. Sebastian's, and second overall at 18:16. Junior James Joyce came in 5th overall, second for St. Seb's at 18:33. Senior captain Sam Hinman was 8th overall, third for St. Seb's at 18:44. Freshman Sebastian Culleton was 13th overall, 4th for Sebs at 19:48. Junior Chris Thompson (20:39) and Senior Captain Will Hansen (20:40) were the Arrows' fifth and sixth runners.

The following morning, prior to the football and soccer games, a reception was held in Arrows Hall to recognize the three ISL Championships won in 1982-83. Teams celebrated were the '82 football team, the '82-'83 basketball team (who also won the New England Class C Championship) and the '83 Golf Team. The Class of 1983 was also recognized for their leadership in bringing St. Sebastian's from Nonantum Hill to Greendale Avenue over the Christmas Break of their Senior Year. Teammates and members of the Class of 1983 were on the 50-yardline for the playing of the National Anthem prior to kickoff. It was a great start to a wonderful day.

After an opening message from Headmaster Bill Burke and the National Anthem, sung by Juniors Derron St. Marie and Ben Goffredo, members of the school community cheered and watched St. Sebastian's host the Belmont Hill football team. It was a great day for St. Sebastian’s and for the varsity football team whose defense stifled Belmont Hill’s offense throughout the game and also caused four turnovers to give the Arrows extra possessions on offense. One of those turnovers led to the first score of the day as Senior Quincy Pickett sacked the quarterback, forcing a fumble. Fellow defensive lineman, Jordan Atkinson, scooped up the fumble and sprinted 55 yards into the end zone for the defensive touchdown. Linebacker Landon Bailey also recovered a fumble in the game and George Kelly and Ryan Steele’s interceptions ended key drives for Belmont Hill. Special teams were strong as well, as Cooper Bolton kicked a 20-yard field as time expired in the first half for the Arrows to take a 10-8 lead into halftime. The Arrows' offense moved the ball well, amassing over 300 yards of offense. It was led by Ty Ciongoli’s passing - primarily to senior targets Zion Simmons and Jack Boyle - but they didn't score until the third quarter when Justin Bourque ran the ball in from 15 yards out to extend the lead to 17-8. The final score of the day came on a bruising 4-yard run from Landon Bailey, resulting in a 24-8 win for the Arrows in front of a packed Homecoming crowd.

On the nearby soccer field, the Arrows played well but lost to the top ISL team Milton Academy, 3-1. Junior Brendan Schmidt scored the lone goal for St. Seb's on penalty kick. Senior Captain Alex Baynes and Junior Kellan Kilmartin were formidable as center-backs.

Congratulations to all of our athletes and thank you to everyone who came out to support St. Sebastian's!
