A Spirited Homecoming Weekend

A Spirited Homecoming Weekend

Alumni, students, parents and faculty gathered with great St. Sebastian’s spirit on Friday, October 17 and Saturday, October 18 to celebrate St. Sebastian's Homecoming, cheering on the varsity football, soccer, and cross country teams.

The weekend began with the Cross Country team's annual Homecoming Meet at The Rashi School in Needham. The squad was supported by a strong showing of St. Sebastian's students who cheered on their fellow Arrows, taking their Henry’s Corner enthusiasm on the road.

Before the action began on the field on Saturday, members of the Guild of St. Irene, including 14 past Guild Presidents, gathered to dedicate a beautiful Statue of St. Irene located on the newly renovated terrace in front of the Elcock Arts Center. Separately, over 100 alumni converged on Arrows Hall in the Burke Family Center to dedicate the recently installed Captains’ Wall, followed by a luncheon in Martin Hall honoring our Duces Society alumni leadership donors and all captains.

During the pre-game ceremony, Head of School Brendan Sullivan welcomed everyone at midfield calling for spirited competition and good sportsmanship. The National Anthem was then sung by alumnus, Derron St. Marie ’24, with the Needham Knights of Columbus serving as color guard. Dan Daly ’61 and Fred Corcoran ’62 served as honorary captains for the coin flip and game. Members of the school community cheered and watched St. Sebastian's defeat the Trinity Pawling football team in a 55-8 victory. Nearby on the soccer field, the Arrows defeated ISL rival Middlesex, 2-1.

Special thanks to members of the Men’s Association and the Guild of St. Irene who manned the grills and kept the swag moving in the Homecoming bookstore!

Congratulations to all of our athletes and thank you to everyone who came out to support our Arrows on a beautiful fall day!
