Paul Keady ’16 Hosts Faculty Zoom Seminar

Classics and Religion Teacher, Mr. Paul Keady ’16, hosted St. Sebastian’s 11th Faculty Zoom Seminar on Tuesday, October 21. This semi-annual series features members of the faculty delivering a passion project seminar of their own choosing. Paul’s seminar, "Exploring the Catholic Understanding of Freedom: A Theological and Literary Discussion," is a culmination of his own academic and theological pursuits coupled with his experience in the classroom. After graduating from Georgetown University in 2020, and while student teaching at several independent schools, Paul earned his Master's in Theology Studies from Boston College in 2023 and is on track to earn a second master's next summer, this time in Catholic Educational Leadership at Notre Dame as part of the Mary Ann Remick Leadership Program. Paul joined the St. Sebastian’s faculty in 2022 and teaches 7th and 8th grade classics and 9th and 10th grade theology and is the Head Coach of the varsity golf team.

Drawing on the works of C.S. Lewis, Nietzsche, Dostoevsky, Walker Percy and Dante, Paul led the seminar viewers on a discussion of freedom, juxtaposing “freedom from” with “freedom for.”  It is through this lens that Paul invites us to consider a Catholic understanding of freedom that emphasizes a self-giving freedom for good and excellence, and true authenticity rather than shallow individualism.

Thank you, Paul, for this thought-provoking and heartfelt discussion!
