Kern Fitzgerald ’79 Honored at the Alumni Hockey Reception

On Saturday, January 24, St. Sebastian’s honored Head Athletic Trainer, Kern Fitzgerald ’79, for his 41 years of service (and counting!) to our School at the Alumni Hockey Reception. Prior to the varsity win over Governor’s, Fitzgerald and his family joined alumni and St. Sebastian’s staff for a reception in the O’Hearn Conference Room. Head of School Brendan Sullivan shared anecdotes from “Fitzy’s” peers dating back to 1984, the year St. Sebastian’s hired him as the first and only Head Athletic Trainer in school history.

A recurring theme within Sullivan’s speech involved Fitzgerald’s unrelenting dedication to helping students and the School. At the conclusion of Sullivan’s comments, he awarded Fitzgerald a proclamation denoting his induction to the “1941 Society.” The 1941 Society is reserved for faculty and staff who have devoted 41 or more years of service to St. Sebastian’s.

Retroactive members of this esteemed group include: Fr. John Paris, Bob Souza, Jack Doherty ’62, Henry Lane ’49 and Dan Williams ’64, who was on hand to celebrate his colleague and friend. Fitzgerald addressed the crowd, thanking attendees for their support over the years and recognized the community at St. Sebastian’s that fostered years of career and personal development. To conclude the event, Fitzgerald joined Sullivan on the ice to be recognized before the hockey game.

Thank you to Kern Fitzgerald ’79 for his 41 years of unwavering service to St. Sebastian’s School. Go Arrows!
