Donors Celebrated at Leadership Reception

The annual Leadership Society Reception brought together parents, alumni, parents of alumni, and grandparents in Ward Hall on Thursday, September 24, to celebrate the generosity and commitment of our Leadership donors. The evening was an opportunity to recognize the tremendous impact of their support and thank them for helping advance the mission of St. Sebastian’s. 

The evening began with a prayer of gratitude from Fr. Chris Boyle. He was followed by Board President Devin Condron ’92, P’29, ’29, ’31, who thanked everyone for their generosity and announced the renaming of the Annual Fund to the Arrows Fund. The new name highlights what unites the St. Sebastian’s community: one community, one fund, and one shared commitment to the School’s mission. Condron then introduced Trevor Mullin ’23, a senior at Yale University and captain of the 2026 Yale men’s basketball team. Mullin reflected on his time at St. Sebastian’s and the valuable lessons he learned from upperclassmen as an eighth grader playing on the varsity team. “Leadership here becomes a cycle,” he shared. Those lessons stayed with him and helped shape the leader he has become. 

Mullin then introduced Yale’s longtime and highly respected basketball coach, James Jones, whose leadership has inspired generations of student-athletes. Through a series of engaging anecdotes, Jones reflected on the evolution of his leadership and coaching philosophy, highlighting the lessons he learned along the way and the impact they have had on his career and his teams. He also recalled experiencing St. Sebastian’s incredible home-court spirit firsthand while recruiting Mullin and invited everyone to come out and root for him at the next Harvard-Yale game in Cambridge. 

Head of School Brendan Sullivan welcomed everyone and expressed his gratitude for their unwavering support. Building on Coach Jones’ theme of “trust”—in his players and in the process—Sullivan thanked the parents in the room for placing their trust in St. Sebastian’s to educate their sons in a mission-driven school grounded in faith. He closed by looking ahead, emphasizing that with the support of the entire St. Sebastian’s community, we can continue building on the School’s strong traditions while moving confidently into the future.
