Sacramental Life
The Sacramental Life of St. Sebastian's School is a crucial element in a student's experience of faith and religion. Daily Mass is offered each morning (optional) at 7:15 in the Chapel, and all students and faculty are welcome. This is a unique opportunity for students to voice their own prayers, to gather in the presence of a very close community of believers, and to begin the day in the best way possible, by receiving the Eucharist. Mass for the School (required) is offered at least once every month, usually on the First Friday of the month, in the Church. Students are involved in the liturgy by being altar servers (some even serve the daily Mass) and lectors, and student singers and musicians often provide the music. The Sacrament of Reconciliation is offered through Religion classes approximately three times each year (Fall, Advent, and Lent) by Fr. John Arens, the School Chaplain. Each student has the option of actually going to confession, or of using the time in the Chapel with his classmates to pray and reflect quietly. The Sacrament of Confirmation is not offered through the School, though in some instances, students have arranged to receive this Sacrament through the parish of St. Bartholomew.
