Chapel

At the center of the prayer life of St. Sebastian's School is the Chapel. Every Monday morning, the entire School community gathers in the Church for Corporate Chapel. Here, we come together to pray, to sing, to listen to the Scriptures, to hear from student speakers (members of the Senior Class), and to receive from the Headmaster words of encouragement and inspiration. Students and faculty alike make announcements regarding all kinds of events on campus, from athletic contests and performance times to charity drives and special programs. During the rest of the week, each grade level gathers in the Chapel for its own Class Chapel. Again, students hear the Scriptures (offered by student readers), and pray in both word and song. Students also offer their own petitions, and each day, two or three of their peers present a Chapel Speech. This speech, reviewed by and rehearsed with a faculty moderator, is about three minutes in length, and is on a topic about which the student feels passionate. Speeches are graded according to their content as well as their delivery, and by the end of the year each student has usually given one.
