Ceramics
An introduction to a variety of clay forming and surface decorating techniques, this course emphasizes handbuilding with slabs and coils, pinch and modeling methods, underglazing, scraffitto and mishima. Once the students have a firm grasp of these elements, they begin to create original and expressive works. Students are also instructed on the use of the potter's wheel. Planned trips to area art museums and classroom visits by local professional artists also play an important role in the students' experience of the ceramic arts.
