AP Language and Composition

This is a writing and reading-intensive course designed to develop students' personal and analytical writing and to engage them in a comprehensive study of Shakespeare's life, works, and influence. Students engage in reading and discussion about effective writing, complete peer writing reviews, and examine models of narrative and argumentative writing in preparation for their own essays and papers. In addition to writing and revising college essays, students study William Shakespeare's plays, career, historical context, and influence on English and American literature and culture. All students are prepared for and are required to take the AP Language and Composition exam in May. Works studied include: Cliff's AP Language and Composition; The Norton Reader; Shakespeare, Henry IV, Part I, Othello, The Winter's Tale; Zinsser, On Writing Well; a college essay guidebook, and several primary documents and essays.
